Can I use cornstarch as a substitute for baking powder?

If not, what else could I use if I don't have baking powder, baking soda, or cream or tartar? Can I use cornstarch as a substitute for baking powder?
No you can not substitute cornstarch for BP but you CAN substitute baking Soda for BP. Just use 1/2 the amount called for and a little less salt than called for.Can I use cornstarch as a substitute for baking powder?
Sorry, You re going to be pretty much out of luck with your recipe. While they may look the same, they are far from each other.

If your recipe is calling for Baking soda, it is most likely using that as the levining agent( to make something rise) the only other substitute would be baking powder, which contains baking soda also.
No

Baking soda is a leavening agent = makes things rise, cornstarch is a thickening agent = gravies, puddings etc.

You will have a flat bunch of inedible glop. If you don't have any of the 3 agents - cream of tartar is basically baking soda - you might as well not make whatever you are looking to bake.
no they are completely different. just go to your neighbors and ask to use a little.

cornstarch is a thickener and baking soda and powder are both chemical leavening agents

BTW cream of tarter is not the same as baking soda. just ask your neighbor and make it simple.
No, because they are 2 totally different baking agents, and will throw off the taste. You may just have to go to the store and get some. Anything you get to replace it, will throw off the taste of what you are making.
no. cornstarch is simply a thickening agent, where as baking powder is a leavening agent
